Principal's Message
Welcome,

Thank-you for spending a few moments at the Principal's Page. West Springfield High School is a great place to work and learn; and with a student body of over 1300 and a staff of 160, we are always in a constant state of motion. I am pleased to announce, as a result of that motion, that West Springfield High School has made AYP, and we will continue to improve.

Please take some time to peruse the rest of this website, as it contains valuable information pertaining to West Springfield High. It is my hope that every student can find something to engage in that they enjoy that goes beyond the classroom: we have a large number of clubs and activities to personalize the learning environment for all of our students.

Our 9th grade teaming system, called the Terrier House, allows our new students to acclimate and assimilate into the high school at a slower pace. This approach has led to better performance by our 9th graders, and last year the Terrier House was selected as a Model Program by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)! We continue to explore new ways for students to have a greater investment in their education in other grades as well. This year, for instance, we have instituted a model of teaming in the 10th grade that will build off of the success of Terrier House, and provide a scaffold of supports for our sophomore class.

As always ,we welcome parents to be a part of the solution. Every teacher in the high school has a homework page that can be found on this website, so please take the time to talk with them about their coursework, and visit your student's homework pages. If you have any questions for your child's teacher, you can communicate with them at the high school through email. Just type in the appropriate teacher's last name, followed by @wsps.org (eg. lastname@wsps.org).

Thank you,
Peter Dufresne
Principal
West Springfield High School
