Principal's Message

Thank you for taking a moment to visit West Springfield High School's website. The site is loaded with information that is designed to help families know more about the High School's students, faculty, curriculum, and activities. We are very proud of what we do for each and every student, and I am hopeful that after examining our site you will appreciate all that WSHS stands for! Please use this website to find homework assignments, athletic and extra-curricular event schedules, and school or District policies.

At WSHS, we focus our attentions on the whole student. Our goal is to see that each and every student maximizes his or her potential. We strive to improve student achievement, to improve retention rates, to close the learning gap, and to establish levels of excellence that will leave lasting impressions on all in the community. At the foundation of our education are four words that drive our decision-making, teaching, and learning. Pride, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit are part of a tradition at West Springfield High School where all members of the school community are encouraged to be involved in educating our students.

WSHS Highlights:

  • Terrier House. This model program provides our Grade 9 students with a supportive introduction to high school. Using an approach that gives faculty opportunities to collaborate on a daily basis, Terrier House focuses on academic success while promoting social and civic responsibilities. Because of the success of Terrier House, WSHS is considering expanding the scope of it into Grade 10 in the coming years.
  • Student Internships. West Springfield High School is fortunate to be able to provide many opportunities for students to get credit for hands-on work in the school and in the community. These interns gain valuable experiences that allow them to develop skills to become productive contributors to society.
  • Athletics. Student-athlete involvement on the fields, courts, tracks, and rinks has always been an integral part of the West Side experience. Over 700 of our students participate on at least one of our 51 interscholastic teams at the Division One level. The teamwork, discipline, goal setting, leadership, self-confidence, and physical fitness that occur through the approach of our programs enable our students to achieve success at the highest levels.
  • Of course, even with all of the outstanding accomplishments at WSHS, I wish to extend an open invitation for all interested stakeholders to share ideas, concerns, questions, or comments with me. I can be reached at or 413.263.3461.
